Our finding aids are summaries of what records are in a collection. The finding aid does not specify every single item found in a collection, but gives a broad summary of the topics covered in a collection, the types of materials found in a collection, and what years the collection covers.
For further information about a collection, please contact us at history@pclib.org or call (331) 808-3535. Due to fragility or sensitive information, certain materials may not be viewable to the public. Many of the items listed in the finding aid have been digitized and added to our local history collection online.
The Streamwood Historical Society worked diligently for many years to collect and preserve Streamwood's history. After the Streamwood Historical Society disbanded, the materials remained with the Hoosier Grove Museum in Streamwood (part of the Streamwood Park District). Poplar Creek Public Library began digitizing these materials and adding them to our digital history collection. These materials still remain with the Hoosier Grove Museum.
Many of our finding aids are for the Streamwood Historical Society collection. A few finding aids are for materials in Poplar Creek Public Library's collection (such as our maps and our newspaper articles collections).
The preservation of the Streamwood Historical Society collection was supported in part by an award from the Illinois State Historical Records Advisory Board, through funding from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission, National Archives and Records Administration. This grant allowed us to preserve the records and create finding aids.
